Bitcoin Security Startup Glok To Address Rising Kidnapping Hazards
Bitcoin’s surge past $100,000 has brought about a new wave of security concerns for cryptocurrency holders, particularly the risk of being kidnapped or held for ransom. In the first half of 2025, incidents of kidnappings targeting crypto holders have already surpassed the total for the entire year of 2024, as revealed by data shared by Glok with Bitcoin Magazine. When analyzing reported cases of crypto-related kidnappings on a country-by-country basis adjusted for population, Hong Kong and the UAE emerge as the most perilous nations, with 0.120 and 0.091 incidents per 100,000 residents, respectively. However, it’s worth noting that these figures, highlighted by Vranova, are likely understated.
Entrepreneurs, journalists, developers, and podcasters who openly discuss Bitcoin are not the only ones at risk; even enthusiasts who have shared their crypto interests with others face potential dangers.
