Bitcoin Thief That Takes $245 Million Pleads Guilty in US Court

The post Bitcoin Thief That Takes $245 Million Pleads Guilty in US Court appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. Veer Chetal, one of 3 men who stole $245 million in Bitcoin last year, just pleaded guilty to fraud and money laundering charges. Now that Chetal has pleaded guilty to the Bitcoin theft, numerous relevant court files have been unsealed. Now that Chetal is virtually ensured to see prison time, the sleuth indulged in a little gloating: According to the unsealed files, Chetal participated in around 50 similar crimes before his huge Bitcoin theft, which netted him around $3 million.

Divert Chetal, among 3 men who stole $245 million in Bitcoin last year, just pleaded guilty to fraud and money laundering charges. He agreed to testify against his co-conspirators as part of the deal. Chetal now faces 19 to 24 years in jail, and his parents may be deported from the US. Although he ran a sophisticated scam, his subsequent actions repeatedly dented his fortunes. Bitcoin Burglar Who Once Said “I Win It All”: The crypto community has witnessed a lot of scams in recent years, but some truly bizarre events are coming to light. Last year, Veer Chetal, a teenager from Connecticut, stole $245 million in Bitcoin with the help of two accomplices. Shortly after, kidnappers abducted his parents in an attempt to claim these ill-gotten gains. Now that Chetal has pleaded guilty to the Bitcoin theft, numerous relevant court documents have been unsealed. This is shedding more light on the full picture. It seems that the 6 kidnappers had nothing to do with the initial theft, either as perpetrators or accomplices. The kidnappers targeted Chetal’s parents, but the extortion proved unsuccessful. ZachXBT, the prominent crypto sleuth, initially spearheaded the investigation of Chetal’s Bitcoin theft. He described the theft as a “highly sophisticated social engineering attack.” However, he also pointed out that poor operational security allowed him to uncover the culprits’ identities. Now that Chetal is almost guaranteed to face jail time, the sleuth indulged in a bit of boasting: According to the unsealed documents, Chetal was involved in around 50 similar crimes before his significant Bitcoin theft, which earned him about $3 million. His current plea agreement will likely entail more than a decade behind bars after attempting to engage in another scam while out on bail. Chetal’s Indian-born parents also face deportation from the United States, as his father lost his job following the kidnapping. All in all, while there may be plenty of social engineering scams in the crypto sphere today, many of their perpetrators are objectively inept.
