Forgotten Playland Brings NFTs and Blockchain to Social Video Gaming on Beam Network
Forgotten Playland has officially incorporated blockchain technology in its latest update, live as of 19 June. Built on Beam Network, an Avalanche-powered Layer 1 blockchain, the update enables full ownership and free trading of in-game assets and marks a significant shift towards decentralized gaming. Players can now own 2 types of NFTs in-game: cosmetic NFTs and Toybox NFTs. Cosmetic NFTs include items like emotes, skins, and attributes, earnable through gameplay, the battle pass, or Toyboxes. Toyboxes, introduced in this update, are limited-edition bundles released regularly, each filled with a mix of cosmetics to allow players to express their unique style. Zico Bakker, co-founder of Duckland Games, mentioned that the NFTs offer personalization, market trading, and access to exclusive content, enhancing player engagement.
Progression Meets Rewards
Alongside NFTs, the game utilizes the native Forgotten Playland token (FP) to power its new decentralized economy. FP tokens are utilized in the game’s ongoing play-to-airdrop campaign, where players earn FLUFFY points based on their gameplay activity, quest completion, and cosmetic ownership. With NFTs and FP tokens gaining traction, players experience more than just cosmetic progression; there’s financial and social motivation to engage deeper. The update also introduces the Spring Celebration battle pass, seasonal challenges, and full German language support to cater to a broader audience. Upcoming features include two additional board games set to launch in two weeks and a Plushkyn Battle mode, still in development. Forgotten Playland continues to expand with content aimed at sustaining long-term engagement.
The game, initially released in March as a free-to-play party title by Duckland Games and Vermillion Studios in partnership with the Beam Foundation, revolves around chaotic multiplayer antics involving abandoned plush toys known as PlushKyns. It is currently available on PC via the Epic Games Store.
